Dr. Nafal treats the full range of foot and ankle problems. His surgical training focuses on the hardest ones:
- Rebuilding the back of the foot and the ankle (reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery)
- Broken bones and serious injuries of the foot and ankle (lower extremity trauma)
- Saving feet at risk from wounds and infection (limb salvage)
- Total ankle replacement and ankle fusion for ankle arthritis
- Revision surgery when an earlier surgery or fracture didn't heal right
- Charcot foot and other diabetic foot problems, including external frames when needed
- Everyday problems like heel pain, bunions and ingrown toenails

DPM stands for Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. A podiatrist is a doctor who focuses on the foot and ankle. Foot and ankle surgeons like Dr. Nafal complete medical school for podiatry, then years of hospital-based surgical residency.
Teaching the next generation
Dr. Nafal helps train new foot and ankle surgeons as residency faculty at Corewell Health Wayne Hospital, where he trained, and as core faculty for the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency at McLaren Macomb.
